Hastelloy C4 alloy is an austenitic low carbon nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy. The main difference between alloys of other similar chemical compositions developed earlier is titanium with a low carbon, silicon, iron, tungsten content and a stabilizing element. Such a chemical composition is more suitable for the manufacture of corrosion resistant equipment that requires soldering, as well as good cold thermoplasticity. It exhibits good stability at 650-1040 ° C, improves the resistance to intergranular corrosion, and avoids edge line corrosion sensitivity and weld heat affected zone corrosion under appropriate manufacturing conditions. It also improves the thermal stability of the alloy. Under most conditions, it is the same as Hastelloy C and Hastelloy C276, but it is less resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion than C276 but better than Hastelloy C276 in oxidizing media.

1. Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy processing and heat treatment: Hastelloy C-4 alloy can be manufactured and processed by traditional production processes.
2. Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy heating: The workpiece should be kept clean and free of contamination before and during heat treatment.
Do not touch sulfur, phosphorus, lead and other low-melting metals during the heat treatment. Otherwise, Nicrofer 6616 hMo alloy will become brittle. Care should be taken to remove contaminants such as marking paint, temperature indicating paint, colored crayons, lubricating oil and fuel.
The lower the sulfur content in the fuel, the better, the sulfur content in natural gas should be less than 0.1%, and the sulfur content in heavy oil should be less than 0.5%. Electric furnace heating is a better choice because the electric furnace can precisely control the temperature and the furnace gas is clean. If the gas of the gas furnace is pure enough, you can also choose. The furnace gas of the heating furnace is preferably neutral to slightly reducing, and the furnace gas should be prevented from fluctuating between oxidizing and reducing properties, and the heating flame cannot be directly burned to the workpiece.
3, Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy thermal processing: Hastelloy C-4's hot processing temperature range of 1080 ° C ~ 900 ° C, cooling method is water cooling or other rapid cooling. In order to ensure the best corrosion resistance, solution heat treatment should be carried out after hot working.
4. Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy cold working: The workpiece should be solid solution heat treated during cold working. The Hastelloy C-4 has a higher work hardening rate than austenitic stainless steel, so the processing equipment needs to be selected. There should be an intermediate anneal during the cold rolling process. If the cold rolling deformation is greater than 15%, the workpiece needs to be subjected to secondary solution treatment.
5, Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy heat treatment: Hastelloy C-4 solution treatment temperature range is 1050 ° C ~ 1100 ° C. For materials with a thickness of less than 1.5 mm, the recommended cooling method is water quenching or rapid air cooling for maximum corrosion resistance. The workpiece must be kept clean during the heat treatment.
6. Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy Scale: The surface oxide of Hastelloy C-4 and the weld slag around the weld are stronger than stainless steel. It is recommended to use fine-grained or fine-grained wheels for sanding. The oxide film must be broken by sandblasting or sanding before pickling with HNO3/HF mixed acid.
7. Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy Machining: The machining of Hastelloy C-4 is carried out in an annealed state. Due to the high work hardening of the Nicrofer 6616 hMo, it is advisable to use a low cutting speed and a re-feeding knife to drive into the underlying surface of the cold-hardened surface.
8, Hastelloy C-4 Hastelloy welding: Hastelloy C-4 can be welded by various welding processes, such as tungsten electrode inert gas shielded welding, plasma arc welding, manual sub-arc welding, metal inert gas shielded welding, melting inertia Gas shielded welding. Pulse arc welding is preferred.
Before welding, the material needs to be annealed to remove oxide scale, oil stains and various marking marks. The sides of the weld are about 25mm wide and need to be polished to a bright metal surface. With low heat input, the interlayer temperature does not exceed 150 °C. This steel grade does not require pre-weld and post-weld heat treatment. Recommended filler metal: wire: ERNiCrMo-7, electrode: ENiCrMo-7.
To get the most suitable corrosion resistance, first consider argon arc welding GTAW. GTAW and SMAW use the same welding material as the base metal.
